Jim Rohn—Art of Exceptional Living

In class we listened to three recordings of Jim Rohn’s s speech on the art of exceptional living. The things he said in the recordings are based on simple concepts such as establishing a personal philosophy and daily habits to create the life we want, to reach our goal. They are in fact the very thing that changed his life. He talked about the definition of failure and success. He said “failure” is a few errors in judgment repeated everyday. “Success” is a few simple disciplines practiced everyday. He told us th

at personal philosophy is the cornerstone of your achievement. He said he worked for 6 years without much success until he met this teacher or you can say mentor of his and changed his mind set on things. After that he stared to become successful. He found out that he became successful not because the government became better or the tax was reduced. I think his point here is, we shouldn’t keep blaming other people and other things for excuses for our own failure, it’s our thinking that will change everything. He also told us to read, build our own library, read over and over again. He said “all leaders are readers” lastly he said experience includes failure. He said to learn from other people and our own experience positive and negative. After listening to those three recordings it got me thinking of my goals and my goal of success, and how I will get there. I really like those recordings they are pretty motivating and it will really get you thinking seriously about how we are living and using the time of our lives.

What does success means to me...

Success means a lot of things to me, like achieving a goal I have set for myself. At this time period of my life, the definition of success or you can say my goal of success for myself is mainly focused getting good grades in school and get into a good university.

Something I enjoyed reading in class—Song of myself by W. Whitman

We read song of myself section 10, 33 and 52 recently. I liked section 33 the most. It talked about Whitman’s perspective of heroism. In the poem he mentioned heroes such as a runaway slave who suffered greatly, a woman who was accused of being a witch, and was sentence to burn to death while her children gazed upon. Whitman described a fireman who sacrificed himself to save other. Same with the dying general on the battlefield who told his mates to “not worry about him” Whitman talked about the heroic actions these people did and the great hardship they suffered through. I really like those three Walt Whitman poems because they all includes nature in it, and I feel like those poems all have a great deeper meaning and it will get people thinking after reading it. Song of Myself is not a poem that is easy to understand, you need to read it more than once or twice to really understand what message Walt Whitman is trying to get to us through the poem.
